Varangian Guard

A few more Axe-men, this time from Gripping Beast's Harald Hardradda's Varangian Guard selection.  These are some rather nice personality figures, which will make for an easy to recognize 'elite' unit on the table.  I went with a more colorful mixture as these warriors were the elite of the Byzantine Empire and thus could afford to be a little more ostentatious, especially when returning to Scandinavia. 

I also picked up one of their Viking Warlord models to use a suitable unit hero or champion.  I dialed back the clothing patterns on this one as I thought the shield decal made it busy enough. 

These figures are definitely on the heavy side, but stand well together in separate units.
