Baccus 6mm Austrian Casualties

Following up from the Adler French casualty tokens I have these Austrian ones from Baccus. These are just the Infantry tokens from the set. (I still have 15 Cavalry casualties to do.) You get 40 infantry pieces in a pack and they are fairly good half castings. The detail is perfect for the scale, and they are much more durable than the Adler figs. (There is nothing sticking up to snap off.) The castings include a mix of Helmets and Shakos with some grenadiers thrown into the mix as well. The cavalry figures will take longer as they are no where near as clean. In fact the detail is very hard to pick out and they look more like molten lumps without the paint. Not a slam, it is just that I had a hard time telling them apart from the Norman casualties I got at the same time. If I had any other critiques of Baccus' current casualty line it is that lack of similar French castings. (There are British and Russian packs, so I assume...

What A Coyboy! II

Earps and Friends Seven months later , and I at least finished the sets! I have had had the balance of the Earp and Cowboy sets from Gunfighter's Ball sitting on the painting table for quite some time. I decided to do some experiments with shading black models that led me to complete the Earps themselves. Wyatt and Doc Ready for the OK Corral. The Cowboys I did the same for Johnny Ringo, so it left only a couple of models left to be finished. One of those was Ike Clanton as seen in "Tombstone" which ranks as one of those nice models that isn't very game friendly. Not much use for a Cowboy model with guns! Johnny and some friends. That said, it is nice to get this small project finished and off to the side. Hopefully I can cajole my son into trying out "What A Cowboy" when he comes home for a visit. Thanks for looking

TYW- What about the Tercios?

One of my biggest struggle with completing this project has been the representation of the massed infantry Tercio of the Imperial forces versus the the layered Brigades used by the Swedes. The woodcuts for Breitenfeld (1831) show the Imperials in their Tercios with 4x sleeves of gunners each and the Swedes in their smaller brigades. The balance of the forces seems to be roughly 1 Tercio = 1 Swedish Brigade in overall strength, with the Swedes holding the advantage in firepower. Warlord's rules seem to address this issue by adding another pike block to the existing formation increasing its width by 33%. Changing to single unit basing makes this somewhat troublesome. My challenge is twofold: 1) Come up with a viable way to represent the formation on the table and 2) Find a way to represent the difference meaningfully within the rules. TYW -Tercios complete

Another Tercio crosses the finish line. This time I opted to add some skirmishers to the front line based on Peter's suggestion. It does add some variation to the stand looks good at a distance. The stand compares well to the other unit I did with 20 pikemen at the ready, and demonstrates good mass. This brings the Imperial side up to 11 total infantry blocks, which should be suitable for most of the scenarios I have been looking at. This leaves only the command stands to bring this project to full readiness. This of course means that I really need to find the right rule set to put them on the table. Decisions, decisions.

TYW - Swedish Upgrades complete

Full Army array I am like the NASA of wargaming: Overbudget, Behind Schedule, and unable to maintain long term goals due to the constant interference of outside entities. That said, I have finally finished rebasing the Swedish/Protestant contingent for my Epic Thirty Years War project. The majority of the delays were the result of moving to individual blocks for the Infantry. This required a lot of trimming and cutting of the strips as well as painting up some extra figures to add some personality to each formation. I also opted to drop all of the smaller units down to 3"x1.5" bases rather than 3"x2" in order to make them look a little more cohesive on the table.
