It has definitely been a busy summer so far, and I am finally getting around to finishing the basing and details from a brace of minis I did in June. This cohort of Samurai represent my third installment of attempted 'batch painting' for my Samurai collection. I did all of the armor in a dark lacquered brown and gave them dark red spears. From there I used a variety of colors on the underclothes, lacing, and sashimono to provide the appropriate cacophony of color for the group.
I also added some sword armed Samurai to the group including one of the retainers from the Nanbu Nobunao command group. He is wearing some nio dou armor which is supposed to "represent the emaciated torso of a starving monk or old man.".... Huh.
I am getting near the end (finally) of the Perry Samurai in the lead pile, so I painted up one last Sergeant for the Oda contingent and two Ashigaru with teppo. I am now out of ashigaru, but I may need to pick up some to complete the Oda group at some point. Always something to add to the collection it seems.
Finally, I managed to get three more units of plastic Samurai transferred over to the more suitable single-unit basing model. No more tippy, fragile plastic samurai for me...
