A pair of figures to add to the Samurai collection. Here we have a Sohei hero from Kensai miniatures. This is a more interesting figure with a rather involved resin base. He is modelled with his latest victim at his feet, pointing out some commands. The model itself is none a a very brittle white metal, as can be seen from the snapped off base of the bow. (Not sure when it happened) It is a fairly animated sculpt with some nice detail. I opted to paint the casualty in the same scheme as my most recent Oda Clan Ashigaru unit, since I figure they would be the most likely force to be engaging my Sohei (at least when I get around to painting some more units of Ikko Ikki)
The Samurai is one of the test figures I picked up from Footsore Miniatures and is part of their Test of Honour range. I went with a fairly basic paint scheme as I am still getting the knack for painting decent looking patterns at this scale. Overall a nice, dynamic pose with sharp detail for painting. I have a few more of these models on the table right now, so I should get at lest 1-2 done by December.
Nice looking hero samurai, Jake.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dean.
DeleteNicely done figures, shame about the bow sooooo annoying !
ReplyDeleteIt would not have been as bad, if I would have seen it break off. Now it is just a game of pattern recognition before vacuuming the den.
DeleteGood looking vignette. It is a shame about the bow but had you not pointed it out, it would have gone unnoticed.
ReplyDeleteYes, a clever use of angles by the photographer.... I hope to fix it in the near future.
