IR. 1 Winterfeldt is coming...

The first fruits of my labors in 10mm SYW War:

A kindly fellow over at TMP got me started on the project with the gift of some Pendraken Prussian Musketeers.  I thought what better was to honor the gift, than to paint them up as IR #1 (Winterfeldt)

The Pendraken castings are similar to the GHQ ACW figs I have in tat the standards are cast as part of the model.  The result is the same need for an "impressionist" version of the standard as my fine motor skills are just not up to the task.  I find that I prefer these for the smaller scales as the paper flags tend to look a little too rigid at the tiny sizes.

Next up is IR #8  Amstell

And finally I have IR #15 Libgard however I am horrified to notice as I look at these that I used the standard for IR#6 (Grenadier Guards) on accident.  I shall have to rectify that when I complete my Grenadier stands!

Overall an interesting diversion, with the differences in regimental coloration being rather subtle at this scale.  I am sure the Austrians will have a much more stark contrast.  Up next, some Grenadier stands.

  1. The Pendrakens are really nice figures. Great brushwork too! I like your handpainted flags over commercial paper versions.

    1. They look good at a distance. My 10mm eagles look like crippled crows....

  4. My, but that was a rapid start to this project - three units already! They look very presentable. I think you're right about the cast flags at this scale. Also much more durable than very flimsy cast bare flag staves.

    1. Not too rapid, I managed to bring the lot along for a course I was taking in Vermont last month. You would be amazed how much progress you can make being stuck in a hotel room for two weeks.

    2. I have done the same when attending an extended medical education course, although the longest I've ever done that for is 5 days, and that was 10+ years ago!

  5. Nice work! There certainly are some very nice and generous folks on TMP (which I haven't visited in a long while) :)

    1. It is a great resource, I visit it mainly for the Marketplace now though. (and for that late 90's retro web feel)
