A few more figs crossing the painting table, this time with a Spring Oak Tree pattern. I took these from Artizan Design's painting guide and used colors from the Flames of War SS paint set. In this case a base of Pale Brown with German Dark Green and Light Green to form the pattern of 'continents and islands'
This pattern is more correct for the time period I am using (Summer - Fall of 1944), but is not as visually interesting as the Plane Tree pattern I have been working on. I am also painting a few with the fall pattern, but I am still not happy with how the Orange-Brown looks at this scale.
My goal is to complete one Platoon of Panzergrenadiers for Chain of Command with enough extra figs to substitute out 1 MG42/squad to do a standard foot platoon, and to field a spotter, sniper, mortar teams, FO, tank hunters and perhaps some Pioneers. I am maintaining the consistency of the colors for the non-camouflage components to help pull the entire group together. This project is somewhat similar to my ACW collection in that you have the unified appearance of one side (Union/US Paratroopers) counter-balanced by the the more chaotic color patterns for the other side (Confederates/Germans)
I should probably some in Peadot for the later time period, however, I am going to go with looks over historical accuracy on this one. They are my toy soldiers after all, and I will play with them as I see fit.
A difficult camo pattern very well executed. Nice.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I think the next step is to move to a finer brush and take some more time to make it less rough.
DeleteVery nice!
ReplyDeleteLooks good to me!
ReplyDeleteThanks Peter
DeleteNice work on the camo! I have not mustered the bravery to attempt camo on my German FJ yet.
ReplyDeleteI did my FJ's in 20mm (1941 pattern), so it was a little less intimidating. If you go early war, you can just do them in Grey-Green though.
