Qin Heavy Cavalry

I finally have some time to post an update, so here is yet another Qin unit complete

I picked up 10 heavy cavalry figures from the Kick-started, so I opted to do two CM units for Impetus and a command stand.

These figures are just like the foot infantry in that you get a single piece body with options for the right arm(sword,  Spear, bow, and standard) as well as heads.  This includes the full face helms shown above.

The horses are all the same single piece casting.  The lack the tabs for slotta bases like the infantry, but they also lack a cast base as well.  That makes them a little unstable for basing.  I addressed that by drilling and pinning two hooves and then attaching them to the base with epoxy.  I know I have said it before, but these miniatures require an excessive amount of drilling and pinning to have any durability.  I assembled all of my light Infantry just using CyA glue and accelerant, and find the heads popping off regularly during painting.  YMMV

  1. Good work! No base for the horse? That does seem a difficult task to balance on the stand for mounting.

    1. The lack of a tab was distressing. They have wider pads beneath two hooves I could use to drill through

  2. Good looking Cavalry. No bases for the horses - eek! What WERE they thinking of? I am currently wrestling with a lot of super gluing on my new First Corps Hussites. Beautiful sculpts, but I am having a heck of a time affixing the crossbows in particular. I do NOT like assembly work! :-)

    1. They came with GW style cavalry slotta bases, they just didn't provide tabs to attach to the slottas..

Overall these minis would have much better cast in plastic, in fact it seems like that was their original design.

  3. This is the only way 28s shine imo. They look awesome when based as big units. Individually they look naked, alone and afraid.
Your stands and paint jobs look excellent.
This is weighing heavily on my mind to start a 28mm DbA viking army with 12cm frontage bases.
