How to Play Basic Impetus videos

Jon sent me this link the other day.  It is an exhaustive walk-through by a Mr. Kurtus Brown on how to play Basic Impetus.  It is broken down into 12-20min chunks cover all aspects of the game.  It makes for a relaxing listen while grading papers.

Speaking of which, thanks for the recommendations on the Hardcore History podcast, I have just started the "Wrath of the Khans" series and am enjoying it.  I have also picked up the China History Podcast feed which has numerous good episodes.  It is not a chronological treatment of Chinese history, but rather by 'episodes' from different time periods.  If Baccus ever does some early Chinese figs, I am in trouble....

  1. Sending the video link was a clever trick to motivate us for our inaugural game.

    1. I have tried a couple of test games of Basic Impetus pitting my Noble Spaniards against the hated French in the Albigensian Crusade (Crusader list). I like the rules overall, but see the utility in incorporating the fallback rule for skirmishers and light cavalry to give them more of a reason to exist.

  2. O.K. so it EVASION. I tried a few test games and found an issue for the skirmishers, especially the bows. Their range is less than the charge range of the cavalry, so if they lose initiative they may die without ever getting a shot off. I could put them behind a unit, but that seems to defeat the point of Skirmishing...

    1. Keep out of charge range and in difficult ground!

    2. The problem is that most of my skirmishers's range is less than most charging distances.
